Brought over to the UK from France during the 18th Century (as the name suggests), the silver entrée dish remains a popular multi purpose serving dish for use at the dining table. An entrée dish is typically manufactured as a covered dish which has a removable handle on the top, allowing both sides to be used for serving cold foods, or to keep hot food warm when using the cover. Examples can be found with original warming stands, although these are often made in Old Sheffield Plate.
